High resolution Terahertz spectroscopy of species of astrophysical interest

Abstract:
We developed a high resolution Terahertz spectrometer relying on optically-pumped molecular lasers referenced to an absolute frequency standard and mixed with tunable microwave generators on Schottky diodes. The spectrometer is coupled to a cell for gas-phase production of light radicals, ions or floppy molecules that may be detectable with the future instruments Herschel, Sofia and ALMA. We observed the rotational spectrum of urea and of the isocyanic acid in the range of 875-901 GHz.
